V4/V5 Electrical Data Migration

E-mail Print PDF

This Article explains how an existing CATIA V4 Electrical model is converted into Catia V5 documents. The conversion of the V4 data is

performed using the PLMV4ToV5 Migration batch. And instructs how to perform the migration of the electrical data (geometry) and technology

Purpose

To perform the migration of CATIA V4 Electrical data (geometry and technology)
Set the following options using the specifi ed steps:
  • Tools → Options → General → Compatibility → Migration Batch Tab
  • Tools → Options → General → Compatibility → Electrical Tab
  • Tools → Options → General → Compatibility → V4/V5 Space
Note: Using Copy/Paste only copies the geometry and does not migrate the technology.

Setting up the Electrical Migration Batch:

  • Go to Tools → Options → General → Compatibility → Migration Batch tab
  • Select the Migration Batch tab.
  • Enter CATIE3DMigration in the Interface Name field
  • Click OK.

Setting up the Geometrical Bundle Migration Mode:

  • Go to Tools → Options → General → Compatibility → Electrical tab.
  • Migrate each Geometric bundle (GBN) in GBN Migration Mode if product is selected as a product in a separate CATProduct.
  • In GBN Migration Mode, if component is selected then each GBN is migrated as a component under the root product.

Setting up the Bundle Segment Migration Mode:

  • Select Bundle segments in Electrical tab.
  • Select the Multi-branchable document.
  • Set up Isolated Mock-Up Solids migration
  • Select the V4/V5 SPACE tab.
  • Isolated Mock-Up Solid conversion as CGR only gets the meshing view (visualization mode).
  • Isolated Mock-Up Solid conversion as PartBody means that user will be able to view the geometry of the solid to edit it.

Launch the Batch Migration

  • Select Tools → Utility
  • Double click PLMV4ToV5Micration
  • Select the sample and the target directory
  • Add the Catia V4 fi le for Migration.
  • Select Electrical in Interface location
  • Select Solid and Ditto as Structuring Element
  • Click Next
  • Click Run for Migration.

For single insert connectors

  • The Representation of the connector connection point and the Contact constraint correspond to the migrated point of the CPP of the V4 SIC.
  • Coincidence and Contact constraints to be changed.

To connect a single insert connector to an equipment or connector shell:

  • Add a cavity connection point to the single insert connector and add or complete the defi nition of a cavity to the equipment or connector shell.
  • Defi ne the Cavity.
  • Click Connect Electrical Devices
  • Select the single insert connector and then select the connector shell cavity.

V4-V5 Mapping

V4 to V5 Document Structure

The V4 MASTER workspace becomes the main V5 CATProduct document
while:

  • Each geometrical SET becomes a CATPart
  • Each DETAIL workspace becomes a CATPart
  • Each GBN becomes a product or a component depending on the migration mode option selected.
Depending on the selected option each BNS becomes a CATPart, if Bundle segments is chosen all the BNSs of a GBN are stored in the same CATPart, if Multi-branchable document is chosen. This approach can be used wherever the Migration of CATIA V4 to V5 is required.
